Software Project Manager
Drive the CAPSHER Software Development Process
The Software Project Manager, or “PM” is a critical part of the development process at Capsher. In this role, you sit at the junction of client relationship and input, and the development team leadership. You are responsible to make sure that Capsher follows the process steps that we have defined for all projects. You do this for two – four project teams at a time.
At the start of each project, you are instrumental in creating a healthy team culture, consistent practices, and understanding the client’s needs. You orchestrate client meetings and participate to gather requirements and explain to them the software dev process we follow. You teach them what to expect next.
At the start of each new initiative you work with project leadership to document the deliverable workflows, design, risks, assumptions, estimates, and timeline. Once the information is ready to begin development, you kickoff the work, ensure everyone understands their role in the plan. Your thorough planning, attention to detail, and measuring results, enables you to detect early if the team is off track.
As work progresses, you continue the client relationship. You conduct demos to illustrate our progress, share status, gather feedback, and keep them oriented around the plan. Sometimes, you share bad news about the timeline or roadblocks. You are adept at explaining the situation, crafting a plan to move forward, and getting agreement.
As deliverables become ready, you personally inspect the product to make sure the team built what was defined. You coordinate with the QA team to define a test approach, and to review any bugs they report. You make sure the release plan is clear and that everyone understands their role.
The PM takes the helm on some cyclical activities. Each day, you check in with the team by holding standup meetings, making sure to head off blockers early. Each week, you and the dev lead plan sprints with the right work to accomplish our client’s objectives. You hold status meetings to make sure the team is aligned on the plan, and share progress with the client and management. You compare time spent against estimates, and work with the dev lead to set a clear timeline. Each month, you compile an invoice of time spent and a forecast of upcoming time, and review it with the client.
